“Push yourself. Expect to learn and put int the work to achieve your goals.”

Katrina Beatty says the strong connections she’s made at Saskatchewan Polytechnic
have left an indelible mark on her.  “My favorite memory is meeting my new classmates,
who have become friends, and I’ve loved working together for our common success,”
she says. “I enjoy coming to school to see my friends’ faces, it's something that
helps me get me out of bed in the morning.”

Katrina will graduate with a certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. As a single
mother of three, she says finding childcare for her baby while coping with the heavy
workload of school has been a challenge, but one that she was able to learn from and
overcome. Katrina’s confidence and willingness to push herself for success will undoubtedly
carry on into her professional career.

Time management, budgeting and use of student support systems helped make life easier.
“The Indigenous Students’ Centre provided a quiet place to work, socialize, and enjoy
a coffee. My Indigenous student advisor was someone I could reach out to with questions
about schoolwork, funding and where to get more help if I needed it.” Katrina recommends
that other students make use of these resources and ask for help right away should
they need support of any kind.
