The newly transformed Mental Health & Addictions Counselling program is a two-year diploma that will be offered at Saskatchewan Polytechnic in fall of 2021. The delivery will be a hybrid format, which is blended, where students will study from home for the theory components and come together for the lab components when needed each semester.  You will study cross-cultural and gender issues, gambling, pharmacology, drug abuse history in communities, prevention strategies and more. Instructors with real-world experience provide practical education in trauma informed care, harm reduction, and exposure to a variety of counselling modalities. Applied hands-on learning is the cornerstone of Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s vision for education and allows you to hone the skills you learned throughout the Mental Health & Addictions counselling program studies. The clinical practice is completed with a 2 week detoxification clinical in first year of studies and a 12 week clinical practice opportunity in second year. The Mental Health & Addictions Counselling program is the first in Canada to integrate mental health, addictions and First Nations philosophy. The integrated theory approach combined with experiential learning and skills practice gives you everything needed to be prepared and successful for front line in the healthcare industry.
