“The doors of opportunity are so plentiful. My job opportunities are so diverse.”

Franky Amyotte Boorman says it was the hands-on learning and small class sizes that drew her to Saskatchewan Polytechnic. “There aren’t 100 people in your classroom and the instructor is available and willing to provide more one-on-one learning if needed.”

The Métis student will graduate with a diploma in Environmental Engineering Technology. She says a highlight of her student life are the relationships she’s developed. “Being a student at Sask Polytech allows you to become close with your peers as well as your instructors. You get to form relationships with everyone.”

As a single mother, Franky has faced demanding workloads and financial challenges. “It’s a tight squeeze,” she says. “I appreciate the work term opportunities between semesters to allow me to save up for the next semester.”

When asked what advice she’d give her peers, Franky offers sage advice: “Take one day at a time. Use a day planner. Do a little bit of homework every night. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Use the learning resources available to you, and most importantly, don’t give up. The finish line comes faster than you think.”

To those considering post-secondary education, she says, “It’s never too late to get started. The opportunities are available to you when you’re ready to take them.”
