In partnership with the Saskatchewan Mining Association (SMA) and their member companies, Saskatchewan Polytechnic has developed standardized contractor safety courses to provide common provincial training standards for contractors working at SMA member sites.
- For contractors: This provides one set of training standards for SMA member sites, reducing repetitive training, saving time and facilitating mobility between sites.
- For SMA member companies: These courses provide assurance that contractors have the knowledge and training necessary to keep work sites safe.
Access to training records is province wide.
General Mine Safety Awareness courses
Effective January 1, 2022, certification and recertification for General Mine Safety training is every five years from the date of completion. This applies to those registering for certification or recertification on and after January 1, 2022 and is not retroactive.

How to register
Individual registration
Register through our online system with the “Add to cart” button at the bottom of the course description. Learn more about course registration and payment.
Employer-sponsored enrolment
On the Continuing Education Sponsorship Form page, scroll down to the “Funding Agency or Employer Information" section for the form. Fill it out with your company information, student information, the preferred course with its CRN number and the start date for the course.
If you need your application expedited for emergency work situations, please email standardizedsafetytraining@saskpolytech.ca after you submit the form.
If an employer wants to discuss employees’ registrations with Sask Polytech staff
and faculty, employees need to sign a Consent to Release Information form (pdf) and email it to standardizedsafetytraining@saskpolytech.ca.
Next steps
After you register
You should receive an email within one business day which includes your Saskatchewan Polytechnic username and password. It will be sent to the personal email address you provided and will allow you to log in to mySaskPolytech and our online learning platform, Brightspace.
If you register on a Friday or on a holiday weekend, the next business day will be the following week when our offices reopen for business.
Through mySaskPolytech, you can access your new Sask Polytech email address, your confirmation of enrolment, troubleshooting links and your tax forms.
If you do not receive your credentials, please check your junk or spam folders. Login information is only sent once every 365 days. If you registered for another course in the past year, your login information will be the same. If you have forgotten your username and/or password, you will need to submit a sign-in troubleshooting ticket to the IT Service Desk.
Accessing your course
With your Sask Polytech login information, you can now sign in to the Sask Polytech online learning platform, Brightspace. You can access Brightspace through mySaskPolytech.

Printing wallet card
After you successfully complete the final exam, you can print your wallet card.
1. While in the online course, click on the content tab.
2. Scroll to the bottom to see the link to wallet card and survey.
3. Click on the the wallet card and survey link. A card will open to the side in same browser window.
4. If you achieved a score of 79.5% or higher a card will be available to you.
6. Follow the instructions to save and print your wallet card. We do not send a wallet
card to you. If you need save or print your card in the future, you need to log into
mySaskPolytech and access your course.
