Admission requirements are established for all approved programs. They are stated on each program's official web page and published in official print materials. The First Qualified/First Admitted (FQFA) process is used for the majority of Saskatchewan Polytechnic programs. A small number of Saskatchewan Polytechnic programs are designated as competitive, involving a specific competitive admission process and requirements.

The established admission requirements consider the academic rigor, curriculum content, industry standards and other factors directly related to a student's success in the program.  Admission requirements may change in accordance with Sask Polytech Policies and Procedures.

Admission requirements may include grade levels, grades, averages, scores, skill proficiency, work experience, licenses, membership, criminal record checks, age or special admission provisions.

When you are applying to a Saskatchewan Polytechnic program, you must arrange for your final, official high-school transcripts to be sent to Saskatchewan Polytechnic Enrolment Services directly from the institution or organization maintaining official records at the time of application. If you are still in high school, your final official transcript must be received 30 days before the start date.

To be eligible for admission based on post-secondary credits, related post-secondary transcripts must be submitted within 60 days of the date of application.

To be eligible for transfer credit, related post-secondary transcripts must be submitted at the time of application by international students, or at the time of applying for transfer credit for domestic students.

Where Saskatchewan Polytechnic requires a specific grade level standing as an admission requirement, the following may be used (or approved equivalents from another province or country), as applicable:

  • Saskatchewan Regular grade level
  • Saskatchewan Adult 10 or Adult 12
  • Saskatchewan GED 12 *
  • Modified Saskatchewan grade level subjects (11, 21, 31)
  • 15 passed credits (includes apprenticeship level) from a recognized post-secondary institution

* GED 12 is accepted in lieu of the grade level for all competitive programs for which an overall average is not required.

Where no specific prerequisite subjects and no overall average are required, an applicant may generally present regular (10, 20, or 30 level), or modified (11, 21, or 31 level) courses. Alternate courses (18, 28, or 38 level) are not acceptable. Check specific program web pages for any additional exclusion concerning modified courses.

Where specific subjects or an overall average are required, only regular (10, 20, or 30 level) courses are accepted.

Where Saskatchewan Polytechnic requires a specific grade level standing plus a specific overall average, the following subjects are used in the overall average calculation:

Applicants are considered qualified when the application is complete, the application fee is paid and there is evidence that all admission criteria have been met (or are being satisfactorily met) and have been received by Enrolment Services.

Some Saskatchewan Polytechnic programs include a keyboarding requirement. Testing is available through Testing Services, and is administered at Test Centres on each Saskatchewan Polytechnic campus. The fee for service is set in accordance with current Tuition and Fees. Results are submitted to Enrolment Services directly from the Test Centre.

Applicants may also arrange to have results submitted directly from another invigilating test centre. The required test length is indicated on the program web page. Results must include gross words per minute, net words per minute, and the percentage of accuracy. Test centres can submit results on our Keyboarding Test Results form (pdf). To be valid, testing must have occurred within the last 12 months.

Permanent Residents must submit a scanned copy of their Permanent Resident card to maintain eligibility as a domestic student. Cards can be submitted to Enrolment Services after you have applied.

The language of instruction and examination at Saskatchewan Polytechnic is English. Proof of English language proficiency is required of all applicants whose first learned language is not English or do not have academics in an exempt country. See English Language Proficiency Requirements. Visit our Language Centre or other ways to meet your English language requirements at Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

To meet admission requirements, all relevant documents, including transcripts, must be submitted to Saskatchewan Polytechnic. Assessors may require documents to be sent directly from the related institution(s) as listed at our international document requirements.

Scanned copies of documents are accepted from applicants for initial assessment. Once you have applied to the program, you may submit scanned coloured documents by email to internationaldocuments@saskpolytech.ca. Ensure that the scanned documents are submitted as unprotected PDF attachments, are in colour and are entirely readable. Remember to provide proof of legal name change if applicable.

If your documents are in a language other than English, you must submit translated versions for verification. If you require that your documents be translated into English, we recommend the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Saskatchewan (ATIS).

Students are permitted to register as unclassified students (application is not required) in selected courses of a credit program for personal interest or future credit without being admitted to that program. Saskatchewan Polytechnic determines the point when unclassified students must apply for admission.
