Bri Colenutt was always interested in technology through hands-on learning.
"I knew that I was a hands-on learner and that traditional university wouldn’t be a good fit for me,” says Bri. “I had always wanted to learn coding as a kid but was never able to and when I saw that Saskatchewan Polytechnic had a Computer Engineering Technology program with an emphasis on project-based applied learning, I knew it would be a perfect fit for me.”
Bri had the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in the industry through co-op education work terms and hands-on projects. She also showcased her work at Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Applied Research Student Showcase, presenting a project developed with the Moose Jaw Community Players that used wireless-controlled LED technology to bring local history to life on stage.
"I gained a lot of confidence in myself and my abilities. The co-op education work terms proved I belong in this field," Bri said.
As a Métis person, it’s important to Bri that STEM education and careers are accessible to everyone. "I dream of working as a software developer and being able to encourage diversity in the STEM field."
