Convocation FAQs

Sask Polytech is actively monitoring the changing COVID-19 landscape. The health and safety of our students and employees remains our top priority and continues to guide our decision-making for all matters including convocation. In the event of a change to convocation plans, graduates will be notified.

Please note: students must register to attend convocation.

An invitation with a registration link will be sent to the graduate’s Sask Polytech email account approximately six (6) weeks prior to the convocation date.
Convocation is on a different date for each campus city. For a full list of dates, times and locations, visit the Ceremonies page.
No, some programs are only delivered at certain campuses. You will be invited to attend convocation in the city that you are registered in.
Arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the ceremony. There are a large number of graduates, it is critical that you arrive on time. Those who arrive late may not be able to participate.

There is no formal dress code for convocation as you will be wearing a black gown, which will come to just below the knee.  Wear attire that will show below the gown (dress pants, skirt, or long dress), as well as shoes appropriate for a semi-formal event.

When lining up for the ceremony, you will be standing for prolonged periods of time and will be sitting on stage for the ceremony, prior to crossing the stage; therefore, lighter, cooler clothing and comfortable shoes are highly recommended. 

No, purses, bags, ball caps and cell phones are not allowed on stage and should not be left unattended. You are encouraged to leave those items with family and friends. Saskatchewan Polytechnic is not responsible for lost of stolen articles. Event staff are not permitted to store or take care of your items.
Each ceremony is approximately two (2) hours in Moose Jaw, Saskatoon and Regina. Prince Albert ceremonies are approximately one (1) hour.
There is no limit to the number of guests that you can invite.
No, tickets are not required and there is no cost to attend convocation.
There are no costs associated with attending convocation. 
Find the gown table to receive your gown and v-stole. Then proceed to the area with your program and line-up in alphabetical order by last name. Volunteers will be there to assist and give you further instructions of what to expect on stage and during the ceremony.
Visit the Unregistered Student Information Table when you arrive at the venue. We do our best to accommodate graduating students however, we cannot guarantee your participation in the ceremony. 
No, you do not need to inform anyone that you will no longer be attending convocation.
You must immediately return your graduation gown and v-stole to the tables where you received them. There will be a tea immediately following the ceremony. Everyone attending the ceremony is welcome to enjoy an assortment of beverages and dainties.
Photos taken of you and the President are available for purchase after the ceremony from Lifetouch. We will also have a photo corner and Star Blanket set-up at each ceremony for your use.
Yes, flowers and gifts will be available for purchase. A photo of you with the President will be for sale on USB for $35.

Certificates and diplomas are not handed out at the convocation ceremony. Credential packages are typically sent via Canada Post by Registration Services within four (4) weeks of program completion (last day of the program).

You will need to write an invitation letter for your guest(s). Please visit the Immigration, Citizenship and Refugees Canada (IRCC) website on information pertaining to writing an invitation letter.

For supporting documents, you may include a copy of your study permit, letter of acceptance, enrolment verification (requested through mySaskpolytech portal) and include this link in your invitation letter - https://saskpolytech.ca/student-services/student-life/convocation/ceremonies.aspx

Your family member or friend may need to apply for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) in order to come to Canada temporarily to visit you. For more information on this, please visit the IRCC webpage to find out if they need a visa.

Part-time students must apply to graduate (pdf) once they have completed all the courses required from their program. Contact Enrolment Services to determine if you’re eligible to graduate or if you have any questions regarding your application to graduate.
