Our dedicated Indigenous student advisors are friendly faces on each campus. They support Indigenous student success by:

Building supportive relationships
Orienting to Saskatchewan Polytechnic and surrounding community
Referring to tutorial support
Organizing study groups, informational, social and cultural events
Assisting with funding through scholarships, awards and for emergencies to meet urgent needs
Assisting with housing, budgeting and employment information
Connecting to outside resources and networks
Collaborating with instructors, program heads and deans

Amy Seesequasis

My name is Amy Seesequasis and I am a proud Cree with Métis lineage from the Beardy’s and Okemasis Cree Nation in Treaty 6 Territory. I lived on my Nation for 29 years and have called Saskatoon home since 2014. I am first and foremost a mother to three children and use that same compassion and dedication in all my roles. I have over a decade of experience as a Treaty content specialist, providing consultation and educational opportunities centered around Treaties, Indigenous peoples and reconciliation. I pursued my adult 12 education at Saskatchewan Polytechnic - Saskatoon Campus in 2007 and went on to the University of Regina and First Nations University of Canada where I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Studies in 2011.

I have held many roles that served the community and that have offered me many valuable experiences and skills. I have worked for the Correctional Service of Canada - Willow Cree Healing Lodge, University of Saskatchewan – Dept. of Native Studies and the Office of the Treaty Commissioner. I am an independent Treaty Relationship Consultant and the owner/operator of sisikwewiskwew Consulting Ltd., as well as the General Manager of an Indigenous dance company called the Creeland Dancers. I have been dancing with this family legacy since 1990; it was founded in 1984 by my Kohkum and late Moshum. I am also one of the founding members of the Treaty Land Sharing Network which is a grassroots movement that provides safe access to land for Indigenous people to honour their inherent rights.

I would describe myself as someone who enjoys opportunities to seek and share knowledge with others. I enjoy dance, art, reading, writing, storytelling, research, opportunities to share/educate and opportunities to be outdoors/on the land. I truly feel it is important to promote wahkohtowin and wichitowin, and provide an understanding of Indigenous peoples and Reconciliation, which will encourage inclusivity and respect for all. Education has been integral to my success, and I am honoured to support Indigenous students to achieve their own educational goals. I joined Saskatchewan Polytechnic in 2022 as an online instructor and curriculum developer for Continuing Education. I feel I have come full circle, providing educational opportunities and support at the institution where my educational success began.
