General Application and Information
Thanks to the generosity of donors and alumni, Saskatchewan Polytechnic provides approximately $2 million in student awards every school year.
Award recipients are commonly selected on financial need, academic achievement or very often, a combination of the two. Selection criteria can also include volunteer or leadership involvement in your communities and schools.
The fall awards cycle is now complete. Successful candidates who applied for a student award in the fall awards cycle will be notified by email by February 12, 2021.
The winter cycle will be open from March 1st to March 31st, 2021. The application cycle will close at 4:30 p.m.

Throughout the year, new awards will be added. Check back throughout the year. You can apply in each application period. (These dates subject to change.)
Student Awards available in these three application dates are for students who will be attending school in the 2020-2021 academic year, starting in the fall.
Please carefully review the following information.
- The Online Application link will be available during open application periods.
- When you are ready to apply, have all the necessary information available, before beginning your application. This includes your marks, financial need figures and any other details such as volunteerism. Make sure you complete all required section(s) of the application. Incomplete applications will not be considered for awards.
- Please make sure to read the Eligibility and Selection Criteria for each award for which you will be applying. Note the eligibility criteria for awards and apply only for those awards for which you are eligible. If you apply for awards for which you are NOT eligible, your application may be disqualified.
- There are several ways to search for awards:
- Select your program from the program drop down list to bring up awards specific to your program or
- Select "Any Program" from the program drop down list to bring up awards that are not specific to a campus or program. These awards may have additional requirements to be met.
- There are a number of awards available only to specific groups of students. Browse by Education Equity or check the eligibility section to identify those awards. If the eligibility criteria of an award stipulates an equity group, only students who have self-declared on their application with Sask Polytech can apply and be selected to receive that award. Sask Polytech has a comprehensive Equity Program and equity groups include:

Requirements and Restrictions
- Before applying for student awards, you must be enrolled in a Sask Polytech program and have
- a Sask Polytech student ID number
- received an offer of admission
- Unless otherwise noted, you must be enrolled full–time (minimum 60% course load) or 40% course load for students with a disability.
- Students must be enrolled in a program at a Sask Polytech campus in Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, Regina or Saskatoon to apply for awards.
- Please note, some programs that are offered on-line, have awards available. Please check the eligibility and selection criteria.
- Students enrolled at any other institution including regional colleges, SIIT (Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technology) and GDI (Gabriel Dumont Institute) are not eligible to apply for awards offered by Sask Polytech.
What Marks Should I Use?
If the selection criteria for an award includes academic merit or achievement, you will need to include your marks.
Entrance Students (Year 1)
- As a first year Sask Polytech student, you must use your Canadian high school marks (based on the five core subjects).
- Sask Polytech cannot provide you with your high school marks. If you require a transcript of high school marks, contact the Ministry of Education or go to the website https://www.saskatchewan.ca/residents/education-and-learning/credits-degrees-and-transcripts/requesting-transcripts-for-high-school.
- If you are an out-of-province student, check the transfer credit guide for your Saskatchewan Education equivalency marks. You can find the guide on this page: www.saskatchewan.ca/residents/education-and-learning/credits-degrees-and-transcripts/transferring-high-school-credits-from-out-of-province
- Permanent Resident students must use your Sask Polytech cumulative average in your application. These marks are usually available after the completion of one semester.
- Accuplacer or GED scores can't be used in place of high school marks for awards that include academic achievement as selection criteria.
Continuing Students (Year 2+)
- As a returning student after your first year of study as a Sask Polytech student, you must use your Sask Polytech cumulative average from the most recent program year completed.
- As an international student, you are eligible for academic merit scholarships or awards that do not include financial need, all or in part, as a selection criteria.
- As a first year international student, you must use your Sask Polytech cumulative average mark in your application. These marks are usually available after (at minimum) one semester of study at Sask Polytech.
- After the first year as an international student, you can use your Sask Polytech cumulative average from the most recent program year completed.
What Do I Need to Include in Financial Needs Section?
- The Financial Needs section of the application needs to be completed for any awards that are all or in part, based on financial need. Income and Expenses for the time you are attending school are considered in the Financial Needs assessment.
- Incomes are the supports and funding you receive while in school and can include personal loans, savings, or awards, etc.
- Expenses are the costs you incur while in school and can include provincial living allowance expenses, dependent costs and tuition.
- International students are not required to complete this page.
How Do I Complete the Additional Information Sections?
- Some awards and scholarships are based on factors such as volunteerism in the community or school, leadership, career goals, as well as others. These are specified in the eligibility and selection criteria of an award.
- Information can be typed directly into the application or cut and pasted into the application. Try to be detailed but concise in the information you provide. Remember to include your position held, duration, and activities.
- Any required attachments must be sent in a separate email to email@example.com. Be sure to include your student id and reference the award for which you are applying.
How Does the Selection Process Work?
- Once the application closing date is passed, the Student Awards Selection Committee will review and select the award recipient(s). Successful recipients will be notified by email within 3 weeks of application close date. The notification email will be sent to your SaskPolytech email address. Only successful recipients will be notified.
- Due to Privacy Law we are unable to discuss student information gathered through the application process, nor disclose details of the selections. All selection decisions are final.
How Will I Receive Award Payment and Tax Forms?
The payment for your student award will be automatically applied to your student account.
If there is anything owing on your student account, the student award payment will be applied to the amount owing.
If your account has been fully paid or the student award payment results in surplus in your student account, a refund cheque will be issued and mailed to your permanent address as shown on your student account.
If the award has any additional requirements to fulfill before receiving your award, you will have a 6 week period to complete and submit the required documents. If this is not done, the award will be redirected to another eligible applicant, or will be advertised on the next posting cycle. You will no longer be eligible to receive this award.
Your Social Insurance Number is required in order to receive your income tax forms(T2202). Students need to use the secure online form accessed through mySaskPolytech to submit their SIN. To submit your SIN, follow the link under the heading Profile and Transcripts, "Update Personal Information and SIN".
Tax forms for tuition are available to be printed through your mySaskPolytech account by the end of February each year.

- Office Administration at Sask Polytech Regina campus
- Must be of self-declared Aboriginal ancestry (includes Status/Treaty Indian, Non-Status Indian, Métis, and Inuit) and provide documentation of ancestry.
- Cannot have received a Farm Credit Canada Aboriginal Student Assistance Grant in the current academic year.
- Students must include one or two paragraph explanation of how the funds will be spent.
- Financial need (100% weighting)
- All uses for the funding will be considered, however, preference given to the following needs: laptop computers, bus passes, food, and clothing.
Students must meet with an Indigenous Student Advisor to submit their application.

The Saskatchewan Polytechnic International Mobility Award provides financial assistance to students participating in an international study and/or work experience as part of their studies. The Award is intended to encourage and facilitate international experiences for Saskatchewan Polytechnic students to gain international exposure, enrich their learning, broaden their cultural understanding, and see the global reach of their field of study. The award is designed to defray the travel-related costs of an international experience.
To be eligible to receive a Saskatchewan Polytechnic International Mobility Award, a student must;
- have been selected by their academic program to participate in an international experience.
- be enrolled in a full-time Saskatchewan Polytechnic or collaborative partner’s certificate, diploma, degree or post-graduate certificate program. (Students with special circumstances which prevent full-time status should provide separate documentation for consideration).
- have completed at least one semester of their program.
- have a minimum grade point average of 70% in the previous term of study and be in good academic standing at the time of application.
- submit on or with their application:
- A statement of interest of 300-500 words describing the purpose of travel and how it will benefit both the student’s academic program and professional development.
- International Mobility Participant Confirmation signed by the program head confirming the student’s acceptance to a Saskatchewan Polytechnic authorized international experience.
Students can receive only one Saskatchewan Polytechnic International Mobility Award per academic year of their program.
Selection will be based on:
- Statement of Interest of 300-500 words describing the purpose of travel and how it will benefit both the student’s academic program and professional development.
Deadlines for application are Jan 30, Mar 15, Jul 15 and Oct 15.
Complete the application and submit it with:
- Transcript of marks from the most recent completed semester.
- International Mobility Participant Confirmation signed by the program head confirming your acceptance to a Saskatchewan Polytechnic authorized international experience.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.

For Indigenous students:
Saskatchewan Polytechnic has Emergency Bursaries available to assist students requiring financial assistance at a critical time. If you are in this situation, please see a Student Counselor or an Indigenous Student Advisor to discuss your needs.
