“The hardest step is taking the first step.”
For Ryan Morin, that first step meant leaving behind uncertainty and taking a chance on a new career. After upgrading his marks at Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Prince Albert, he enrolled in Computer Engineering Technology in Moose Jaw—a decision that opened doors to creativity and confidence.
Ryan has a passion for robotics and game development and says his favourite memory at Sask Polytech was seeing everyone’s projects in microcontroller robotics class. “It was inspiring and made me want to create an awesome project too,” he says
It wasn’t an easy transition at first. Loneliness, financial stress and tough living situations made his first semester challenging. “Tutoring and counselling services helped a lot,” Ryan says. “Now the Indigenous Students’ Centre feels like a second home.”
Looking ahead, Ryan hopes to work in Saskatoon in a role that offers work-life balance while pursuing his creative interests of making games, drawing comics and traveling. His advice for others is to ask for help and keep going.
