There are many apps that offer moments of tranquility and aimed at supporting mental health.  Consider exploring one of these to get you started.

  • Insight Timer- offers over 14,000 FREE offering focused on meditation, yoga, and sleep.
  • Headspace- refer to the app as a personal trainer for your mind. It has offers cute animations. There are some great free meditations to help you learn how to meditate. For access to all tools there is a monthly fee.
  • Stop, Breathe, Think. -A friendly, simple tool to guide people of all ages and backgrounds through meditations for mindfulness and compassion. Contains free and for purchase tools. All profits go to Tools for Peace, which inspires people of all ages to develop kindness and compassion in everyday life.

Your breath is effective technique to ease the mind and develop a sense of inner calmness.  Explore meditative breathing:  

Saskatchewan Polytech students are welcome to connect with the Sask Polytech Counselling Team for additional resources and supports. Help reduce your stress by taking time to slow down and be present with what is. Our Mindful Moment videos guide you through moments of self-reflection and mind body connection. We welcome your suggestions for future mindful practices.

Intramurals, Challenges and Open Gym Time

Sask Polytech Fitness and Recreation offers a variety of ways to stay active and social through throughout the school year.  Stay active on your own time with a wellness challenge or join in schedule fun with intramural and open gym time. 

 

Intramurals is a fantastic way to stay active and destress, while meeting new friends and sharing lots of laughs. All skill levels are welcome, and no cost to participate.

Bonus: you have a chance to win an Intramural Champion t-shirt and other fun prizes!

Registration is required

Intramural Leagues run for five to six weeks and require registration. Team and individual registration are welcome. All registrants will be contacted with league details prior to start date.

Intramural Wave 2 begins March 6 to April 6

Registration opens February 17, 2023, and closes March 6, 2023.

In partnership with the University of Regina Rec Services, Saskatchewan Polytechnic students are able to take part in recreation sports on their campus. For a list of intramural sports taking place at the U of R, check the intramurals page. If you are interested in joining one or more of the activities, please contact wellness@saskpolytech.ca for information on how to register.

Stop by and enjoy some fun. A variety of sporting equipment is available for you. All skill levels are welcome and encouraged to drop in and make new friends!

Chris Knoop (Moose Jaw campus)

Chris has represented the fitness industry for over 10 years in the province of Saskatchewan.  He holds a Kinesiology Degree from the University of Regina, and is a Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology Certified- Personal Trainer (CSEP-CPT).

"Whether you have a fitness goal in mind, or looking improve your overall physical wellbeing, I can help you get there. I look forward to connecting with you."

Duane Banman (Regina campus)

Duane’s education includes a degree in Anatomy from the University of Saskatchewan, registered massage therapist from the Western College of Remedial Massage Therapy and recognition with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) as a Certified Exercise Physiologist. He has worked at Sask Polytech for 10 years and he’s been involved in the health and fitness industry for just over 30 years.

Kelly is a Kinesiology Graduate from the University of Saskatchewan. He has been coaching and training every day and elite athletes since 1998. Kelly has been teaching with Sask Polytech for the past 10 years.

Grant Turner (Prince Albert campus)

Grant combined a bachelor’s degree studying the Social Determinants of Health and a passion for physical activity pursuing a Postgraduate Certificate in Human Performance Training from Sheridan College, followed by a master’s in Human Movement from A.T. Still University. It was when working with Muay Thai athletes (a martial art from Thailand) as an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach that he began to be fascinated by the underexplored connection between physical activity and mental health. He was inspired to pursue a Graduate Diploma in Psychosocial Rehabilitation from Douglas College and is now taking courses in Neuroscience at Dalhousie University.

"No topic is off limits. I am here for you and your wellness journey, wherever that takes you! Consultations, personal training, group training and intramurals are all a part of how he will try to enrich your experience here at Sask Polytech.”

Elevator Repair Stair Climb Challenge (Regina campus)

Some of Regina’s main campus elevators are under repair—essential work needed to ensure safe, functional elevators for everyone on campus. Campus Fitness and Recreation is partnering with Facilities to turn this inconvenience into an opportunity by giving you an incentive to take the stairs!

Starting in October and running each month until the end of May, 2023 your goal is to take the stairs as much as you feel comfortable and keep track of the floors you climb.

Saskatchewan Polytechnic main campuses have a fully equipped fitness centre offering a wide range of cardio equipment, free weight areas as well as assorted loaded weight and cable stations to enjoy a well-rounded opportunity to move your body.

To access campus fitness centres, download the Fit & Rec app from the Apple App store or Google Play and use the barcode for entry.

The Moose Jaw, Prince Albert and Saskatoon main campuses have a gymnasium equipped with a variety of sporting goods and netting equipment utilized for intramurals, open gym times. There is also a selection of equipment for personal sign out.

As of January 1, 2022, Sask Polytech students, employees, alumni, Sask Polytech Students’ Association and their families will be able to access all City of Saskatoon Leisure and Aquatic Centres for a 20% discount from standard rates for general admission (single tickets) and LeisureCard monthly passes. Family member discounts apply to immediate family members purchased with Sask Polytech student, employee or alumni admission. This new discount replaces the previous agreement whereby these groups could access the Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre at no charge. 

Note: Proof of Saskatchewan Polytechnic affiliation is your access pass. Please read specific instructions below for students, employees and alumni.

To show your status as a current student, please log into mySaskPolytech.ca on your mobile device and select Sask Polytech ID Number to show leisure centre staff along with current photo ID that matches the name in the top right of the mySaskPolytech portal. Sask Polytech students may not use an expired Sask Polytech ID card to access the discount.
To show your status as a current employee, please log into mySaskPolytech.ca on your mobile device and select Sask Polytech ID Number (above the link to your timesheet) to show leisure centre staff along with current photo ID that matches the name in the top right of the mySaskPolytech portal. Sask Polytech employees may not use an expired Sask Polytech ID card to access the discount.

Sask Polytech alumni photo ID cards issued in previous years will be accepted as proof of Sask Polytech affiliation. If you do not have an alumni photo ID card, email alumni@saskpolytech.ca providing your name, program and year of graduation. Once confirmed, you will receive an email confirming your affiliation. The email along with photo identification that matches the name on the email will be required to access the facility.
