Move your body 24/7. Anywhere. Anytime. Saskatchewan Polytechnic offers fitness classes, both online and in-person.  

Can’t make a live Zoom workout? No problem. Check out Saskatchewan Polytechnic Fitness On-Demand, our YouTube channel, where you can get an awesome workout in on your own time. Don’t forget to subscribe!

These classes are offered LIVE through ZOOM weekly. Our wellness instructors will guide you through an energizing workout utilizing body weight; no equipment required. Join us!

Our offerings are intended to guide you through moments of tranquility and mind body connection. Sessions are offered through Zoom.

There are many apps that offer moments of tranquility and aimed at supporting mental health.  Consider exploring one of these to get you started.

  • Insight Timer- offers over 14,000 FREE offering focused on meditation, yoga, and sleep.
  • Headspace- refer to the app as a personal trainer for your mind. It has offers cute animations. There are some great free meditations to help you learn how to meditate. For access to all tools there is a monthly fee.
  • Stop, Breathe, Think. -A friendly, simple tool to guide people of all ages and backgrounds through meditations for mindfulness and compassion. Contains free and for purchase tools. All profits go to Tools for Peace, which inspires people of all ages to develop kindness and compassion in everyday life.

Your breath is effective technique to ease the mind and develop a sense of inner calmness.  Explore meditative breathing:  

Saskatchewan Polytech students are welcome to connect with the Sask Polytech Counselling Team for additional resources and supports. Help reduce your stress by taking time to slow down and be present with what is. Our Mindful Moment videos guide you through moments of self-reflection and mind body connection. We welcome your suggestions for future mindful practices.

Intramurals, Challenges and Game Night

A friendly competition is always a great way to meet new friends, share lots of laughs and have a chance to win an Intramural Champion t-shirt and other fun prizes!

 

Intramural Curling

Participants will get six weeks of games (4 ends) at a cost of $80/team; or $20/player if your register as an individual.

Intramural Badminton

No cost to participate and you can sign up for one, or all of the divisions (Men’s, Women’s, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles). Number of matches and divisions will be determined by the number of participants.

The purpose of wellness challenges is to encourage healthy lifestyle behaviours in a supportive environment. An incentive can also be encouraging. Check out each challenge to see what incentive is offered.

Cross Campus Challenge (September)

Run. Walk. Bike. Swim. Get active with Sask Polytech for your chance to win great prizes!

10,000 Daily Step Challenge (January)

Step into the New Year with their 10,000 daily step challenge! For the month of January, the goal is to document how many steps you take each day and log your weekly total. Prizes up for grabs and accomplishment badges awards!

Move More (March)

This challenge is all about making your whole day matter and being mindful of your movement habits.

What are games being played?

  • Trivia: Challenge your knowledge of random facts and popular topics through a series of questions needing a timed response.   Note: You will need a two devices (laptop, tablet, cell phone).  On one device you will download the Kahoot! app.
  • Quick Draw: Inspire by Pictionary, players attempt to draw an identified word while others guess the answer. Grab a pen and paper, prepare for some laughs.
  • Bingo: Each player tries to cross off numbers on their card as they are randomly selected and called out by the bingo caller. Games can have different patterns to complete to win.  It is beneficial to have two devices (phone and a laptop).  Be prepared to call out “BINGO!” when you win!
    • More games to come.

Chris has represented the fitness industry for over 10 years in the province of Saskatchewan.  He holds a Kinesiology Degree from the University of Regina, and is a Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology Certified- Personal Trainer (CSEP-CPT).

Duane’s education includes a degree in Anatomy from the University of Saskatchewan, registered massage therapist from the Western College of Remedial Massage Therapy and recognition with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) as a Certified Exercise Physiologist. He has worked at Sask Polytech for 10 years and he’s been involved in the health and fitness industry for just over 30 years.

Facilities, hours and more information

Saskatchewan Polytechnic main campuses have a fully equipped fitness centre offering a wide range of cardio equipment, free weight areas as well as assorted loaded weight and cable stations to enjoy a well-rounded opportunity to move your body.

The Moose Jaw, Prince Albert and Saskatoon main campuses have a gymnasium equipped with a variety of sporting goods and netting equipment utilized for intramurals, open gym times. There is also a selection of equipment for personal sign out.

Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre is a hop, skip and a roll from the Saskatoon Campus (Idylwyld Dr.) with pools, diving boards, drop-in swimming, and aqua-fitness programs. Visit the Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre webpage for full details on services available to you.

Students, staff, faculty, and alumni can enjoy Fitness and Recreation facilities and the Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre (Saskatoon Campus) at no cost with proof of Saskatchewan Polytechnic affiliation. 

Note: Proof of Saskatchewan Polytechnic affiliation is your access pass.

If you are a student/employee/alumnus with an outdated SaskPolytech ID card, you will be able to use that expired card to access facilities and the aquatic center.

If you do not have a Saskatchewan Polytechnic ID card, the process to gain access will be as follows:

  1. Log into your mySaskPolytech portal homepage to prove you are part of the Saskatchewan
    Polytech community.
  2. You then must show photo identification that matches the name in the top right of the
    mySaskPolytech portal.
    *Family access is only available with affiliate present
    **We are not responsible if admission is restricted due to Harry Bailey Covid-19 safety protocols.

Sask Polytech alumni photo ID cards issued in previous years will be accepted as proof of Sask Polytech affiliation. If you do not have an alumni photo ID card, email alumni@saskpolytech.ca providing your name, program and year of graduation. Once confirmed, you will receive an email confirming your affiliation. The email along with photo identification that matches the name on the email will be required to access the facility.
