Sask Polytech and the University of Regina are working together through the Collaborative Indigenous Procurement Strategy to support fulfilling the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Call to Action #92.
We are committed to miyo wâhkôhtowin and kahkiyaw kiwâhkômâkaninawak. We recognize the positive value and experience that stems from interconnectedness and relationships. Through the Collaborative Indigenous Procurement Strategy, Saskatchewan Polytechnic and the University of Regina are strengthening relationships with Indigenous businesses to increase institutional purchases of goods and services. Together, we are championing change and supporting Indigenous entrepreneurship, economic growth, jobs and opportunities.
Focus and actions
The Collaborative Indigenous Procurement Strategy is a work in progress. Work to date includes regulatory, peer, policy and procedure review. Sask Polytech and the University of Regina have identified high level areas of focus and actions for consideration to increase institutional purchases of goods and services from Indigenous businesses. We encourage Indigenous businesses to provide feedback on the proposed areas of focus and action.
- Indigenous business research
- Creating an Indigenous business supplier list and staying up to date on Indigenous businesses who provide goods and services used in the post-secondary education sector.
- Procurement process opportunities
- Reviewing current procurement processes and identifying areas in the process to encourage
more Indigenous business participation. There are many options that could be implemented
to increase the purchase of goods and services from Indigenous businesses. A few are
identified below:
- Incorporate Indigenous ownership and Indigenous content into the evaluation process
- Encourage contractors to use Indigenous businesses as subcontractors
- Advise Indigenous businesses of new opportunities as they become available
- Reviewing current procurement processes and identifying areas in the process to encourage
more Indigenous business participation. There are many options that could be implemented
to increase the purchase of goods and services from Indigenous businesses. A few are
identified below:
- Indigenous community engagement
- Outreach, information sharing, support and collaboration to increase the goods and services purchased from Indigenous businesses.
