- Student Services
As a Saskatchewan Polytechnic student, you can access a registered nurse conveniently
and confidentially at any of our main campuses.
Whether you're feeling stressed out, need treatment or support, or require specific
health information, come and see us. We’re available on a first-come first-served
basis, subject to nurse availability.
For emergencies, call 911. For medical care outside of our operating hours, please
call your family physician.
Student health services
Sask Polytech students have access to the following services:
Health promotion programs
We develop and implement initiatives and campaigns throughout the year to inspire
healthy habits and prevent illness within our student community. This may include
conducting health education sessions/health fairs on topics such as sexual health,
nutrition, stress management, substance abuse prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices
tailored to the needs and concerns of students.
Immunizations (Health science students preparing for clinical placements)
We provide publicly funded immunizations to health science students preparing for
clinical placements. Ensuring they have the necessary immunizations can help protect
both the students and the patients they will be interacting with during their clinical
rotations. It's essential to keep up with vaccination requirements and recommendations
to promote a safe learning and working environment in health care settings.
Mental health support
We can provide mental health resources and referrals to Saskatchewan Polytechnic
Counselling Services for students experiencing anxiety, depression, stress or other mental health concerns.
Our goal is to provide comprehensive support for the overall well-being of our students.
Minor first aid
We'll provide care for minor injuries such as cuts, bruises, sprains, and strains.
This may involve providing wound care, applying bandages and offering guidance on
whether further medical evaluation is necessary. As a registered nurse we are not
able to diagnose illnesses or prescribe medications that require a prescription.
For any health concerns or injuries that are ongoing or occur when not on campus,
please visit a local walk-in clinic or your family physician's/nurse practitioners
office.
Over-the-counter medication
We offer a small selection of over-the-counter medications for common ailments such
as headaches, allergies, cold and flu symptoms, gastrointestinal issues and minor
pain relief. These medications do not include prescription medications and are intended
for occasional use only. Students are expected to bring their own medications, including
over-the-counter meds, if they require them on a regular basis.
Student support
We serve as a resource and provide guidance on accessing community resources (e.g.,
physicians accepting new patients) and advocate for student health needs within the
campus community. These services can help ensure that students have access to basic
health care resources and support on campus, promoting their overall health and well-being
during their academic pursuits.
Health services do not include:
- Making or providing any medical diagnosis
- Prescribing medications
- Ordering a test, such as an x-ray or blood work (except as an adjunct for serology
under Dr. Enebeli)
- Making a referral for you to see a specialist or to have a procedure done
- Medical procedures (except immunizations and TB skin tests for designated programs)
Please visit your nearest primary health care centre if you require any of the above
services.
