Our applied curriculum prepares you for a career in the insurance industry, combining core business fundamentals with specialized insurance knowledge. You’ll study insurance principles, underwriting, claims management, brokerage operations, and ethics, building the skills employers expect in today’s financial services sector.
You’ll take industry-aligned courses designed to prepare you for professional insurance licensing and industry exams, giving you a strong head start as you enter the workforce. By the end of the program, you can earn up to five credits toward the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation, helping you accelerate your professional certification and career progression.
Develop real-world experience and professional connections through a paid co-operative education work term, where you’ll apply classroom learning in an insurance environment while gaining valuable industry experience and earning income.
You’ll build a strong foundation in business essentials such as accounting, finance, customer relations, communication and professional practice, while gaining industry-specific expertise aligned with current insurance standards and employer expectations.
The Business and Insurance diploma emphasizes applied learning. You’ll work through realistic case studies, client scenarios and industry-focused projects that reflect the day-to-day realities of the insurance profession. You’ll also engage with industry professionals and community partners, graduating job-ready with the confidence and practical skills to succeed in brokerage, underwriting, claims or further professional certification pathways.

You will develop job-ready skills for a variety of insurance roles and gain advanced knowledge recognized by the Insurance Institute of Canada. Sask Polytech is one of just eight Canadian institutions offering a dedicated insurance diploma, and its graduates are highly sought after. Career opportunities include working for large firms, government agencies or as independent brokers.

Admission requirements
- Grade 12 or successful completion of at least 15 credit units from any Business certificate program or any Business diploma (year 1) program with a 60% overall average (or equivalent).
- English Language Requirement

- Computer experience in a Windows environment is recommended.
Admission method
First Qualified/First Admitted
The First Qualified/First Admitted (FQFA) process is used for the majority of Saskatchewan Polytechnic programs. When we determine that you meet the program's admission requirements, you will be offered admission based on the date you fully qualify for the program. The earlier you provide the appropriate documents and information that qualify you for admission to the next intake, the earlier you might begin your studies.
Applications for all FQFA programs open September 1 each year.
Sponsored programs or programs targeted to specific groups do not accept applications year round or maintain an application pool.
