English for Success Level 1 (ENGL-1802)

This course introduces academic English using reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Learners will understand common elements in Canadian academic culture and will be provided with strategies and English language skills needed to understand a variety of topics in an academic learning environment. Skill development includes: • writing paragraphs & essays • referencing, and how to avoid plagiarism • analyzing reading • note-taking • summarizing • understanding critical thinking & problem solving • participating in group work & discussions • making presentations • correcting grammatical issues
