This program is offered through the Building the Future: Opportunities for Early Childhood Educators program. It is open to Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents.

Use work experience to gain credit

The NextGen Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) program helps you earn credit for the skills and knowledge you already have through existing PLAR methods and:

  • Micro-credentials: short, focused courses to supplement your learning, and
  • Onsite assessments: an ECE PLAR assessor observes you in the workplace to evaluate your skills.

If you have work experience in a child care centre, you may be eligible for NextGen PLAR which may give you credit for some Level 2 and Level 3 courses. This will help you finish your program faster and move you forward in your ECE career.

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Be admitted to the Early Childhood Education diploma program.
  • Be currently employed in a Saskatchewan-based regulated child care centre.
  • Have worked for two years full time in the ECE sector within the last five years.

Schedule

Level 2 courses:

  • Intake starts September 2025

Level 3 courses:

  • Dates to be announced
