Project description
This project supported the Government of Malawi’s goals of poverty reduction and socio-economic development through appropriate technical vocational policy and programming initiatives. The project will strengthen the Technical Entrepreneurial Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) system partners through capacity building in planning, management, program renewal, technical teacher training and applied research.
Goal
To support the Government of Malawi's poverty reduction and socio-economic development strategies through appropriate TEVET programming and policy support.
To strengthen the capacity of the TEVET system partners, particularly the Malawi Polytechnic to design, deliver and renew programs, conduct research as well as develop and train competent managers and teachers to meet the challenges of poverty reduction and to contribute to socio-economic growth.

Results
The results included a strengthened TEVET system through capacity building in planning, management, program renewal, technical teacher training, and applied research. The project redesigned programs to ensure relevance, addressed issues of access and success, and increased the capacity of technical teachers in the TEVET system to prepare students for employment and self-employment. Thus, the TRP increased the ability of the TEVET partners in Malawi to:
- develop policies aimed at strengthening the TEVET system
- design, develop, implement and evaluate programs using effective teaching and learning strategies
- implement programs that matched the needs of employers
- conduct research that enhanced the development, delivery, and evaluation of appropriate policies, programs, and systems
