As Canada works toward a transition to a lower carbon economy, the focus on improving energy efficiency in residential homes is becoming more important than ever. Saskatchewan Polytechnic and their Canadian Colleges for a Resilient Recovery (C2R2) partners are providing green construction training for the Canadian workforce, with the target of net-zero emissions by 2050.

Home energy science training will upskill and reskill workers to build and retrofit existing homes, with topics such as:

  • The building science in the areas of heat, air, and moisture flow
  • The procedures for insulating and sealing the business envelope
  • Energy efficient windows and doors
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC systems
  • Understanding the National Building Code requirements.

Delivery methods

  • A 15-hour online-only, asynchronous micro-credential.
  • A two-day, 15-hour in-person workshop on a Saskatchewan Polytechnic campus.

This program was made possible with Canadian Colleges for a Resilient Recovery (C2R2), a coalition of post-secondary institutions, including Saskatchewan Polytechnic, which provides training opportunities to acquire the skills needed to transition Canadian workers to support a clean economy.

The coalition aims to foster a more inclusive and equitable workforce, develop training and research opportunities, create inclusive opportunities, and continue to further truth and reconciliation with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people.
