In the wake of COVID-19, higher learning institutes have fully incorporated online learning into their educational practices. Along with this, the coronavirus pandemic has accelerated a trend in workplace dynamics that was already underway through automation and artificial intelligence, shifting marketplaces, and changing workplace roles. Today’s reality is about helping employees with their jobs. In response, organizations are pursuing an upskilling agenda that develops employees’ digital expertise.
Through our dynamic consortium, Lighthouse Labs, Saskatchewan Polytechnic and XLRator, will execute The Upskilling Imperative pilot which will deliver the validation of a digital upskilling learning support platform and within micro, small and medium businesses and over 250 employees in communities in British Columbia, Ontario and Saskatchewan (rural and urban).
Upskilling is the process of learning new skills/teaching employees new skills to improve their current performance without changing their career pathway. An organizational focus on an investment in an on the job upskilling learning platform promotes an environment and culture of continuous learning. With this approach in mind, The Upskilling Imperative pilot provides learners and employers with:
- Personalized and customizable learning plans
- Variety of carefully curated hard and soft skill learning experiences, for the just-in-time (performance support) and formal learning (aligned to career progression milestones)
- Personalized coaching (mentorship) matchmaking and support
- Single platform to access learning and coaching (mentorship)
The Upskilling Imperative is supported by Canada’s Digital Technology Supercluster. Its programs advance the digital innovations needed to protect the health and safety of Canadians, grow digitally powered industries and develop the talent and enterprises needed to succeed in a digital world.
