Project description
As part of the consortium, Saskatchewan Polytechnic will partner with Weru Vocational Technical College (Malindi, Kilifi County, Coastal Kenya) to assist in improving its Automotive and Welding programs. The activities will include supply of equipment, training of instructors, review of curricula, exchange visits of Canadian and Kenyan faculty, and others.
The improved and new courses and programs will reflect the labour market trends in Kenya and the needs of the local industry partners. Best practices from Canada in curriculum and program development and renewal will be reviewed and applied in a context appropriate approach. Kenyan faculty and staff will jointly with Canadian partners review the existing curriculum, will upgrade the courses and modules, lesson plans, assessment tools, and incorporate the CBET approach into teaching.
Goal
To work with the Kenyan partners on the successful launch of improved and new training courses. Canadian partners will provide capacity building and mentoring to local Kenyan partner institutions and their instructors, staff, and senior leaders to strengthen their skills required for the review and revision of existing and the development of new courses and programs. Enhanced teaching, leadership and management skills acquired during the project will ensure the sustainability of these courses and programs.

Expected results
Young Africa Works in Kenya project will build the capacity of training institutions in Kenya and will result in male and female graduates from Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) courses with the right skill sets to find employment in the Kenya’s economy.
