Many applicants contact us with similar questions regarding the selection procedures for the Dental Hygiene program. Here is additional information to assist you with your application to the program. Please carefully review the following frequently asked questions.
1. What are the admission requirements and selection criteria?

2. What type of information should be included with my application when I submit it to Saskatchewan Polytechnic?
3. I am currently enrolled in grade 12. What do I need to do?
Make a request to Saskatchewan Education to send your official transcript directly to Saskatchewan Polytechnic at the end of semester one (no later than March 1) and the end of semester two (end June). Final official transcripts must be received by August 1, 4:30 p.m. (Saskatchewan time).

4. I am a grade 12/Adult 12 graduate. What do I need to do?
Make a request to Saskatchewan Education to send your official transcript directly
to Saskatchewan Polytechnic by March 1. Final official transcripts must be received
by August 1, 4:30 p.m. (Saskatchewan time).

5. What if I do not have a second science? In the past, Saskatchewan Polytechnic waived the requirement because I had a Dental Assisting certificate.
Saskatchewan Polytechnic will not waive the second science requirement. You must have Bio 30 and Chem 30 to apply to the Dental Hygiene Program or an approved alternative. Please refer to approved alternatives chart.
6. Are there approved post-secondary alternatives to high school admission requirements?
Alternative courses are only used in the absence of grade 12 required courses. Please refer to approved alternatives chart.
7. I applied to the Dental Hygiene program previously and have since taken several post-secondary courses. Will these count?
An official transcript is required to be forwarded to Enrolment Services directly from the issuing educational institution. The high school average will be compared to any grade point average(s) (UGPA) presented for a minimum of 30 passed post-secondary credits from a recognized post-secondary institution - and the highest average considered for admission.
8. I am currently registered in the Adult 12 program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. What do I need to do?
9. The selection criteria indicate that relevant post-secondary education will make up 10% of my final score. What does the Dental Hygiene program consider to be "relevant post-secondary education"?
10. What should be included in the candidate portfolio?
11. If I am not accepted into the Dental Hygiene program this year, do I have to reapply?
12. I have most (or all) of the classes for the first year of dental hygiene through my previous education. Can I enter right into the second year of the program?
No, as there are specific allotted seats in the dental hygiene program it is not possible at this time to go right into the second year.
