Your Educational Options for a Rewarding Career

With nine child care centres opening in 2017 in new schools in Saskatchewan, each with 90 spaces, there is a predicted shortage of early childhood educators.

Consider these programs and courses to develop your understanding of children's development from birth to age 12, so you can apply that knowledge and develop quality early learning curriculum and child care environments.

Dual Credit

With Dual Credit, you can be certified to work before you graduate grade 12. It's offered at Saskatchewan high schools for three on-line courses:

  • ECE 142 Health, Safety and Nutrition
  • ECE 106 Role of Play
  • HUMD 183 Child Guidance 1

On-campus Full-time Programs

The Early Childhood Education certificate program is offered in Prince Albert, Regina and Saskatoon.

The Early Childhood Education diploma program is available in Regina and Saskatoon.

Part-time Studies

Try out a few courses to see if this is the program for you or work the program into your schedule with flexible learning options.

Continuing Education offers all courses and practicums to part-time students through distance (print based), on-line and evening classes. Additionally, courses may be offered part- or full-time through Regional Colleges in your area.

You can take five Early Childhood Education courses as a part-time student through Continuing Education or a Regional College prior to applying for admission to the Early Childhood Education program to continue either part- or full-time.

Admission Requirements

  • Grade 12, English 30A & 30B OR a GED with English 30 A & B OR Accuplacer score of 70+
