Award Description and Criteria

As a recognized leader in working with industry and the community in applied research and innovation, Saskatchewan Polytechnic owes its success to the individual and collective efforts of its faculty and researchers. Our award program recognizes excellence in applied research and innovation as a significant component to making our institution a key contributor to Saskatchewan's economic and social development.

The Saskatchewan Polytechnic Applied Research Award of Excellence is presented every year at convocation. 

To be eligible, a nominee must be a current researcher in a part-time or full-time position and has worked a minimum of two years at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. Previous winners cannot be renominated for the award within a five-year period. The nomination must demonstrate excellence in applied research and innovation.

What you need to know

  • The nomination deadline is March 3, 2025
  • Up to two Applied Research Awards of Excellence will be awarded at convocation.
  • Each award recipient will receive a framed medal and $1,000 funding for professional development or applied research and innovation expenditure which is to be used by the end of the following academic year.
  • Recipients will be profiled in the Saskatchewan Polytechnic annual report and related publications.
  • The nominator is responsible for securing the letters of support and submission of the complete nomination package.
  • Judging is done by a committee consisting of the Associate Vice President Applied Research and Continuing Education (chair), one Senior Leadership Assembly (SLA) member, and two industry/community representatives.

Nomination package

The nomination package must include:

  • a current curriculum vitae of the candidate;
  • a letter of support from an external industry/community partner;
  • a letter of support from a student;
  • a letter of support from an out-of-scope supervisor, dean or associate dean; and
  • a summary of the candidate's achievements that demonstrate excellence in applied research and innovation.
