Breaking the chains that bind us by freeing innovation catalysts

Innovation scientists tell us that innovation cycles typically run about six years. In most companies, this is roughly the life cycle of a management team. According to Harvard Business Review, we are entering another major “disruption-driven” cycle.

Join Saskatchewan Polytechnic and MICA for a one-day event to promote Saskatchewan regional innovation ecosystem engagement and encourage connections with the five other key regional ecosystems that make up our pan-Canadian mining innovation vision and mission.

Speakers and topics

Delivering a range of speakers with opportunity to encourage networking, this conference brings together a group of well-placed industry, research, education and government specialists who will frame the event with:

  • an introduction to innovation thought and practice;
  • a highly sought-after backgrounder from Statistics Canada on how Sask mining fits in;
  • a professional industry/tunneling expert’s observations of innovation trends during the last decade;
  • local research scientists’ presentations on statement of the opportunities;
  • and a valuable national perspective of the lay of the land in public research capabilities and programs.

This discourse will demonstrate the importance of leveraging mining innovation through investment accelerators and modelling how cross ecosystem efforts can create a big win for Canada, the public and industry. The conference date falls between two key calls for proposals by MICA, targeted at landing a number of mid- to late-TRL level projects in a run to complete and commercialize some of the best conceived new products and services including some with joint provincial, federal and industry investment to support them.

Speakers and topics have been selected to frame the high-level view of our mining opportunity in Saskatchewan and beyond, to introduce "innovation ideas" and local partners to create an environment of outside-the-box thinking in preparation for the second MICA call for proposals soon after the event.
