Program: Dental Assisting certificate
After high school, Jaden Lamy had no idea what she wanted to do for a career. She tried university for a year, but when that didn’t inspire any ideas, she looked at Sask Polytech.
“I did some research and discovered the Dental Assisting program. Everyone I had spoken to who graduated from Sask Polytech really enjoyed their time there, so I decided to attend,” Jaden says. “I also liked that the program has a fully functional dental clinic, allowing students to work on real patients and learn from experience.”
The time she spent in the dental clinic is one of Jaden’s fondest memories. “Everything is hands-on, and that’s how I learn best. It’s fun to practice and obtain skills in a practical setting. You get to experience what your career will actually entail,” says the Métis student.
Jaden also enjoyed the sense of community she built at Sask Polytech. She remembers knowledgeable instructors who were passionate about their work and genuinely cared about students’ well-being. “No matter the circumstance, they were there to support you and make you feel like you belong.”
While Jaden looks forward to establishing her career, she’s also thinking about going further with her education. She encourages anyone considering their post-secondary options to set clear goals.
“Post-secondary is a short period in your life, but it’s extremely important to your future. Staying focused on your goals will help you get the most out of your education,” Jaden says. “Put all your effort into these few years and it will pay off.”
