Blair Bowman

Hometown: Saskatoon, SK
Program: Integrated Resource Management diploma

“My classmates are my favourite part of being at Sask Polytech,” Blair says. “I’m fortunate to have a great group of people to learn with. Staff are also knowledgeable and helpful. There is a strong support system and welcoming environment here.”

Blair is in the Integrated Resource Management (IRM) program at Prince Albert campus, where the Métis student is learning about sustainable management of fisheries, forests, wildlife and park resources. He’s taken a Sask Polytech program before, so he’s familiar with the hands-on, practical approach to learning. “I quite enjoy it,” he says.

What’s not to enjoy? In addition to classroom study, Blair is taking part in labs, camps, field exercises and work experience. All these different learning experiences are preparing him for a variety of career options. He might work as a fish and wildlife technician, forestry technician, plant specialist or park ranger. He could work for conservation authorities, Indigenous communities, resource companies, government agencies, municipalities and more.

“I’m looking forward to the many opportunities available, and I’m excited to explore them all,” Blair says. Blair is a mature student. He says that if he could go back in time, he’d tell his younger self to head down the education path earlier. At the same time, he has no regrets. “The life I’ve led has made me the man I am today.”

“Do it.” That’s Blair’s message to other mature students. “There’s never a perfect time, so just do it while you can. It’s never too late.”
