Hometown: Prince Albert, SK
Nation: Métis
Program: Business diploma (Accountancy)
When Rayann decided to take the Business diploma program, she knew it would be a challenge. “My husband works away from home, and we have three children ranging in age from one to six years."
Her busy family life is one of the reasons she chose Sask Polytech. “I like the support and friendliness of the instructors. I like that they know my name and have an interest in me as a person," says the Métis woman.
Switching from being a stay-at-home-mom to a student wasn’t easy. After much practice, she thinks she’s gotten better at balancing homework and family time. “I encourage others to really work on school-life balance and to make it a priority. Without balance, I would not be successful."
She accessed a variety of services during her program, and she encourages others to do the same. “I encourage everyone to make sure you introduce yourself to your Indigenous student advisor because mine has been such an asset to my success."
Now, when she walks down the hallways on campus, Rayann enjoys the friendly greetings between students, staff and faculty. “I feel like I belong. I feel safe. Because of these things, I would encourage my kids to consider Sask Polytech to achieve what they want in their futures."
