Program: Aboriginal Policing Preparation certificate

Looking back, Joshua wishes he’d enrolled in the Aboriginal Policing Preparation program right after high school. At the same time, he’s not wasting any time on “shoulda, woulda, coulda.”

“I had a friend who took the program years back,” says the First Nations man. “He became a police officer and would mention the program to me. One day, I woke up and decided to apply.”

Joshua had other friends and family who had attended Sask Polytech and had good experiences. That made him more comfortable with his choice. He also says the Prince Albert campus is a great place to make friends. “I like that the instructors are friendly and help you achieve your goals.”

One instructor in particular has been inspiring. “Bev Glasscock is an amazing teacher,” he says. “She’s been through a lot as a police officer. She has wise words to share. It’s been an honour having her as an instructor.”

Joshua is excited about the next step, which is hopefully becoming a city police or RCMP officer. He shares his own wise words for anyone uncertain about post-secondary. “Don’t doubt yourself,” he says, “nothing is easy in this world, but if you work hard enough, you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. You can finish what you started.”
