Program: Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology diploma
Jennifer first heard about the Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology (CLXT) program at Sask Polytech through social media. She was quickly attracted by the practical, hands-on approach to learning.
CLXT is a demanding program that combines science and technology with direct patient care. In other words, there’s a lot to learn in a short period of time. “You need to stay on top of the workload and be able to reach out when you need help,” Jennifer says.
“It’s tough, because you’re dealing with stress, loneliness and the feeling of not being good enough,” she says. “I tell myself to not compare myself to others, to love myself for who I am. I know that I can do this.”
“There’s a lot of support and resources at Sask Polytech, which has been wonderful,” adds the Métis woman. “One of my favourite people is Derek Yee, my Indigenous student advisor. He’s made me feel so welcome and has given me a safe place to go when I’m feeling down.”
She’s also used scholarships, library services, learning services and counselling to help adjust to life in the academic fast-lane. She visits Henri’s and the campus coffee shop to unwind with friends.
