Victoria's favourite part about the collaborative nursing program is the simulation labs, where she gets to put concepts into practice and gets the hands-on experience that will help make her a great nurse.
"I also like how small Sask Polytech is compared to other institutions. It's less intimidating," she says. "I've made a lot of friends and have gotten to know my instructors really well."
While the transition from high school to a post-secondary environment proved to be challenging for Victoria, she says that by relying on Indigenous Services for support she has managed to build a solid foundation for success in achieving her educational and career goals.
"If I could go back in time, I would tell myself to relax and everything will be okay," she says. "I have to make sure I remember that when I'm feeling stressed or discouraged."
As she continues to work towards a career in nursing, hopefully in Saskatoon, this
First Nations student has some sage advice for future students:
"I'd tell them not to worry. If they were feeling like they aren't good enough or
smart enough, I'd remind them that their life is bigger than a grade and they are
smart enough."
The SCBScN program is run jointly by Sask Polytech and the U of R.
