Animal use in teaching and research at Saskatchewan Polytechnic is subject to ethics approval and review. As part of this federal mandate, all incident reports are investigated in accordance with Canadian Council for Animal Care best practices. 

Any person witnessing or having direct knowledge of a situation that they believe jeopardizes animal welfare should report the incident immediately. Such situations may include, but are not limited to:

  • an apparent case of non-compliance with policy or guidelines for animal use
  • a clinical emergency
  • a mechanical or facility issue that jeopardizes animal safety or welfare 

An incident of animal welfare concern can be reported, without discrimination or fear of reprisal, by any person witnessing a situation that causes them to have a concern about the care and use of animals in teaching at Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

This report will be submitted anonymously to the Office of Applied Research at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. All incident reports will be investigated in accordance with Sask Polytech Policy 1105.

Please contact the Veterinary Technology, Program Head at 306-659-4259 or Program Assistant at 306-659-4115 to rapidly address the issue. If these individuals are not available, call the Commissionaires at 306-659-4444.
