Courses

  • Length: Approximately 15 hours
  • Format: Online self-paced learning 
  • Admission requirements: Be a pre-apprentice, apprentice, journeyperson or other worker in the electrical or electrical-related industry.
Green technology and transportation basics are changing. Electric vehicles (EVs) are a great option for reducing the carbon footprint of vehicles. This course introduces you to the fundamentals of EV batteries, safe handling and proper storage.
Have you ever wondered how electricity works and how batteries keep systems running? This course teaches you the basics of voltage, current, resistance using Ohm’s Law and how these concepts work together in circuits.

You will learn how to calculate equivalent resistance in series and parallel circuits and understand the fundamentals of batteries and power in DC systems. You will also explore how batteries charge and discharge, along with different charging methods and safety considerations. By the end, you’ll have the knowledge to work confidently with basic electrical systems and battery technology.
Have you ever wondered how standby generators keep the power on during an outage? This course teaches you about the main components of a standby generator and how they work together. You’ll learn the typical operating sequence that ensures a smooth transition when the power goes out.

You will also cover how emergency generator testing is done to make sure systems are reliable and ready when needed. By the end, you’ll understand how these systems operate and why proper testing is essential for safety and performance.
Have you ever wondered how geothermal energy can heat and cool buildings? This course teaches you the basic principles of geothermal energy and the different types of systems used today. You’ll learn how to assess a site, size a system and safely install ground loops and heat pumps.

You'll also cover how to connect geothermal systems to building HVAC systems and how to troubleshoot and maintain them for long-term performance. By the end, you’ll have the knowledge and skills to work with one of the most efficient renewable energy technologies.

Are you interested in learning about the basics of green home efficiency? This course provides you with the fundamental learnings of building science in the areas of heat, air and moisture flow.

You will learn about the procedures for insulating and sealing the business envelope and the various types of materials available and their effectiveness. Energy efficient windows and doors as well as basic knowledge of HVAC systems is also covered in this course. Lastly, you will gain an understanding of the National Building Code requirements.

Electric vehicles (EVs) are a great option for reducing the carbon footprint of vehicles. But where do you start? If you’re a consumer or someone in retail automotive sales who is interested in EVs, this course is a good place to start.

In this course, you will examine the positive aspects of running an EV and gain an understanding of the general maintenance involved with an EV.
Have you ever wondered how wind turbines turn wind into electricity? This course teaches you how
wind speed affects power output and why these factors matter for efficiency. We’ll also cover how energy from wind turbines is stored in batteries for later use. By the end, you’ll understand the basics of wind energy systems and how they deliver clean, reliable power.
