Sustainable Practices and Advanced Renewables Knowledge (SPARK) green energy courses give you hands‑on experience to build practical skills in sustainability and emerging renewable technologies.

Courses
- Length: Approximately 15 hours
- Format: Online self-paced learning
- Admission requirements: Be a pre-apprentice, apprentice, journeyperson or other worker in the electrical or electrical-related industry.
Electric Vehicle Battery Basics and Storage
Energy Storage
You will learn how to calculate equivalent resistance in series and parallel circuits and understand the fundamentals of batteries and power in DC systems. You will also explore how batteries charge and discharge, along with different charging methods and safety considerations. By the end, you’ll have the knowledge to work confidently with basic electrical systems and battery technology.
Generator Maintenance
You will also cover how emergency generator testing is done to make sure systems are reliable and ready when needed. By the end, you’ll understand how these systems operate and why proper testing is essential for safety and performance.
Geothermal Energy Basics
You'll also cover how to connect geothermal systems to building HVAC systems and how to troubleshoot and maintain them for long-term performance. By the end, you’ll have the knowledge and skills to work with one of the most efficient renewable energy technologies.
Green Business Analyst
This course helps you understand what a business analyst does. It also teaches you how to find good solutions for the environment and match your company's sustainability goals. It contributes to building a greener future for generations to come.
Improving Your Home's Energy Efficiency
You will learn about the procedures for insulating and sealing the business envelope and the various types of materials available and their effectiveness. Energy efficient windows and doors as well as basic knowledge of HVAC systems is also covered in this course. Lastly, you will gain an understanding of the National Building Code requirements.

Introduction to Microgrids
Introduction to Microgrids provides a comprehensive overview of the importance of microgrids in creating and sustaining electricity. By the end of the course, you will gain a solid understanding of microgrid fundamentals, their components and their role in the future of energy systems.
Microgrids: The Technical Aspect
By the end of the course, you will gain a profound understanding of the various technical aspects that make microgrids a cornerstone of modern energy solutions.
Understanding Electrical Vehicles
In this course, you will examine the positive aspects of running an EV and gain an understanding of the general maintenance involved with an EV.
Wind Energy Basics
wind speed affects power output and why these factors matter for efficiency. We’ll also cover how energy from wind turbines is stored in batteries for later use. By the end, you’ll understand the basics of wind energy systems and how they deliver clean, reliable power.
