Saskatchewan Polytechnic is mourning the passing of Saskatoon philanthropist Irene Dubé, who died Tuesday, June 9. Her legacy will live on through the Leslie and Irene Dubé School of Nursing at Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
In spring 2024, Irene and her late husband, Leslie, made a transformative $7.5 million donation to Sask Polytech during National Nursing Week to the Time to Rise campaign. In recognition of their generosity, the School of Nursing was named in their honour.
“On behalf of Saskatchewan Polytechnic, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Dubé family and to the many friends and community members who are mourning Irene’s loss,” says Dr. Larry Rosia, Sask Polytech president and CEO.
“Irene’s commitment to social responsibility, along with her dedication to supporting those most in need, made her a true leader in charitable giving. Her legacy will continue to inspire and empower generations of nursing students and help strengthen the future of health care across Saskatchewan.”

A portion of the Dubés' generous gift was used to establish a long-term trust for Sask Polytech psychiatric nursing student awards. This investment ensures that future generations of psychiatric nurses receive the education and training they need to provide exceptional mental health care to our communities. Since its creation, the trust has supported 20 students each year.
