Gift will support a new Veterinary Technology Simulation Lab at the Joseph A. Remai Saskatoon Campus
October 10, 2025 – Saskatchewan Polytechnic received a $1-million gift from the Heather Ryan and L. David Dubé Foundation to support a simulation lab for the Veterinary Technology program at the new Joseph A. Remai Saskatoon Campus. In recognition of this transformational contribution, Sask Polytech is proud to announce the naming of the Ryan/Dubé Veterinary Technology Simulation Lab.
“We’re excited to make this $1 million gift during Vet Tech Month,” says Ryan. “As animal owners, this donation is about ensuring the best possible care for them here in Saskatchewan. We’re committed to supporting the health and well-being of all animals looked after by vet techs across the province. Animals are a big part of our lives, and we want Sask Polytech students to have access to the latest tools and technology to build their skills and keep them healthy.”
“We are deeply grateful to Heather and David for making Sask Polytech part of their legacy of giving and for supporting the development of the new Joseph A. Remai Saskatoon Campus,” says Dr. Larry Rosia, president and CEO of Sask Polytech. “Veterinary technologists bridge an important gap—they are lab technicians, clinical pathology technicians, scrub nurses and so much more. This program is key to meeting the growing needs of the animal health industry, today and in the years ahead.”
The new simulation lab will provide students with a safe, hands-on learning environment to practice clinical techniques and hone essential skills. The flexible space will allow faculty to deliver a range of simulation experiences, from client scenarios with actors, to procedures using computerized models. This investment in advanced simulation and modelling technology positions Sask Polytech students at the forefront of innovation in veterinary medicine and animal health care.
Veterinary technologist skills are in demand to care for animals at veterinary clinics and animal hospitals, livestock operations, animal shelters, diagnostic labs, research facilities, zoos and game farms. The new campus’s proximity to the USask Western College of Veterinary Medicine will continue to foster strong partnerships, enhance Sask Polytech student experiences and strengthen the educational and professional network supporting Saskatchewan’s communities.
This latest gift reflects the family’s ongoing dedication to veterinary students in Saskatchewan. The Heather Ryan and L. David Dubé Foundation previously contributed to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine.
The Time to Rise campaign aims to empower Sask Polytech graduates and strengthen the provincial economy. The Remai Saskatoon Campus will consolidate an existing network of decentralized, outdated buildings into a modern, technology-rich learning environment, increasing program capacity for more students.
