Largest gift ever received from a corporate donor will be commemorated by naming of Nutrien School of Mining, Manufacturing and Engineering Technologies

March 15, 2024 – Saskatchewan Polytechnic has received the largest gift from a corporate donor in its history from Nutrien – toward its Time to Rise campaign supporting the construction of the new Saskatoon campus. In recognition of this transformative gift of $15 million, the School of Mining, Manufacturing and Engineering Technologies has been renamed the Nutrien School of Mining, Manufacturing and Engineering Technologies.

“Thank you to Nutrien for helping pave the way for state-of-the-art facilities, cutting-edge resources and an environment that inspires success in every learning journey,” says Dr. Larry Rosia, Sask Polytech president and CEO. “With this significant contribution, we are not just constructing a new campus, we are building a launchpad for tomorrow's leaders. For more than 40 years, the connection between Nutrien and Sask Polytech has been mutually beneficial and has evolved to become an indispensable partnership that plays a critical role in Saskatchewan’s economy. Nutrien's generous gift will leave a lasting impact on Sask Polytech and future generations of students.”

The $15 million gift to Sask Polytech’s Time to Rise campaign from Nutrien will directly support the construction of the new Saskatoon campus. This campus is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a 21st century modern learning environment, supplying the expert workforce for current and emerging industries. This investment will also enable Sask Polytech to continue working closely with Nutrien to train the workforce of tomorrow and provide skilled graduates for Nutrien's potash operations. Nearly 300 of Nutrien's current employees are Sask Polytech graduates, working at various Nutrien locations across Saskatchewan.

“At Nutrien, we are dedicated to sustainably feeding, fueling, and clothing a growing planet, and it begins right here at home in Saskatchewan," says Chris Reynolds, executive vice-president and president, Potash at Nutrien. "As our industry continues to evolve, attracting top talent in Saskatchewan remains crucial. Nutrien is proud to make this historic contribution to the Time to Rise campaign, knowing it will have a lasting impact on future generations of Saskatchewan Polytechnic students enrolled in skilled trades programs. Nutrien has over 60 years and deep operating roots in Saskatchewan. This investment reflects our commitment to supporting our province and our industry in the challenges we face today and the opportunities of tomorrow.”

The new Saskatoon campus will transform an existing network of multiple decentralized, outdated buildings into a revitalized complex that offers modern, technology-rich learning for students and greater opportunities for applied research and investment. Located at Innovation Place adjacent to the University of Saskatchewan, the new Sask Polytech campus will set the stage for an Innovation Corridor that brings together business, entrepreneurs, students and other learning institutions to create a centre of excellence in applied learning and research.

This investment will strengthen collaboration between Nutrien and Sask Polytech, ensuring the training of skilled graduates can meet evolving workforce needs and tackle industry challenges through applied research innovations.
