Sask Polytech celebrates graduates at Regina campus convocation

Institution honours its graduates and award recipients

June 23, 2023 – Today Saskatchewan Polytechnic celebrated the learning journey of graduates, along with award recipients, at the Regina campus convocation ceremonies. More than 1,300 students were invited to attend Regina campus convocation. Sask Polytech Regina graduates are joining a dynamic and diverse alumni network that is more than 150,000 strong.

“Congratulations to our Regina campus graduating class of 2023,” says Dr. Larry Rosia, Sask Polytech president and CEO. “As you cross the stage at convocation, know that your hard work, dedication and perseverance have brought you to this momentous occasion. Your credentials represent the accumulation of applied learning, critical thinking, hard work and resilience. Thank you for choosing Sask Polytech. We are proud of all you have accomplished and wish you every success on your career journey.”

It is a Sask Polytech convocation tradition to recognize extraordinary graduates, faculty members and community leaders who have demonstrated exceptional achievements and exemplified the institution's vision, mission and values. Sask Polytech’s vision is to empower a better Saskatchewan and its mission is to inspire success in every learning journey. Congratulations to the Regina campus award recipients.

Andrew Sinnett was recognized with the Governor General’s Academic Bronze Medal for the highest average in the Regina campus Adult 12 program.

Suet Ying (Michelle) Chiang, a graduate of the Early Childhood Education program, is the recipient of the Governor General’s Academic Collegiate Bronze Medal for the highest average at the Regina campus.

Richard Mildenberger, a graduate of the Bachelor of Applied Management program, is the recipient of the Governor General’s Academic Silver Undergraduate Medal for the highest average at the Regina campus.

Macee Robertson, Primary Care Paramedic instructor, received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching. Robertson is described by students as someone who cares. She cares about her students, about integrity and about people. Robertson has developed new information night events for prospective students on the paramedic program waitlist and is a great communicator who is committed to student success.

Dr. Abdul Raouf, Sustainability-Led Integrated Centres of Excellence (SLICE) research chair, received the Applied Research Award for Excellence. Raouf has been with Sask Polytech for nearly a decade. In partnership with Cowessess First Nation, Raouf led a project using remote sensing technologies, specifically unmanned aerial vehicles with imaging sensors, together with traditional ground penetration radar to locate unidentified and unmarked grave sites at the site of a former residential school.

Thien Huy Vuong Doan, a graduate of the Business Information Systems program, was recognized with the Outstanding Citizenship Award. Huy Vuong Doan served as the Regina campus representative of Sask Polytech’s Students' Association (SPSA) and participated in a wide range of Sask Polytech activities, including Welcome Weeks, Career Fairs, the Frost Festival, Stress Better, Council Connect, the KNOW Conference, lntercultural Weeks and wellness events.

Sask Polytech awarded an honorary degree in Applied Studies to Cadmus Delorme.

More than 5,000 students from all four Sask Polytech campuses are expected to graduate this academic year.

Sask Polytech is known for its exceptional graduates and offering high-quality programming. We fuel provincial growth by providing qualified, work-ready graduates to meet labour market demand. This is demonstrated by consistently high graduate employment rates. Sask Polytech currently has a 96 per cent graduate employment rate and 94 per cent Indigenous graduate employment rate. One out of every 24 jobs in Saskatchewan is supported by the activities of Sask Polytech, its students and alumni.
