Giving Day proceeds to support the Sask Polytech Student Emergency Fund

Students at Saskatchewan Polytechnic are ready to rise to the challenges of tomorrow. But they can’t do it alone. Your support will help empower a better Saskatchewan through supporting our Student Emergency Fund.

Today, 15,000 students enrolled across Sask Polytech’s campuses and programs are preparing to become the leaders of tomorrow in every sector in Saskatchewan.

Their success depends on receiving the best education possible. Hands-on experience with the most up-to-date equipment, opportunities to collaborate widely and knowledgeable mentorship are all vital components of their education.

Your gift, along with gifts from other generous people like you, will help students reach their educational and career goals—and ensure they’re ready to benefit Saskatchewan, its people and its economy, for decades to come.

Last year over 250 students at Sask Polytech sought emergency financial support. Because of an individual emergency, they required urgent, temporary financial assistance for necessities like food, heating bills, rent, childcare, bus passes and utilities—things that are absolutely essential for them to be in school, learning.

Kendra Strong-Garcia, director of Student Experience and Learning Services and interim director, Counselling and Health says, “The past few years have been tough on so many students. I saw services and supplies that we provided to students rapidly depleted or reduced due to overwhelming demand, I realized the need for student financial support had grown significantly.”

Strong-Garcia adds, “Each year for the past three years, we have seen a 30% increase in emergency funding requests over the previous year. This year, with inflation added to the lingering effects of the pandemic, we anticipate even more students will need a helping hand. Being on the front line our Student Services team always hear how much students appreciate the financial support and the difference the bursaries make in their lives.”

“Words cannot express how grateful I am for donors like you. This bursary helped me in a number of ways, including help with my children as I am a single parent. This program is a dream for me and a pivotal step towards my dream career – I am thankful for this opportunity, this bursary, and for Sask Polytech making it all possible. Again, thank you.”

Mental Health and Addictions Counselling student, Jennifer P.

“I would like to sincerely thank the kind donors and patrons behind the emergency grant. I was so excited to be getting back into post-secondary school and back to the real world, but after a recent move and job loss I was worried that dream was going to be short lived. As a lower income kid raised by a single mom, I never thought I would be afforded this opportunity, so thank you a hundred times over.”
