Erin Laczynski is Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s first Library Clerk applied certificate graduate.

Erin Laczynski was at a librarian conference when she first heard of Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s online Library Clerk applied certificate. “It seemed like the perfect way to learn how to be better at my job. I am so grateful the Sask Polytech instructors approached me and made me aware of this new online learning opportunity.”

Erin has a diploma in Equine Science with major in Business Management from Olds College in Alberta. Before starting Sask Polytech’s applied certificate she was working full time at Punnichy Elementary Community School as the school librarian. She says the information she learned in the Library Clerk program was practical and useful. “Your time is spent learning what you will actually need to know to do your job. The instructors were always helpful, available, and gave positive and constructive feedback on assignments.”

Library Clerk is an applied certificate program offered fully online. Students develop skills in children’s materials, young adult’s materials, programming, public relations and information resources. One of the benefits of learning online is flexibility. “Deadlines were flexible so you could fit the course around your life when things were busy,” says Erin.

An obstacle Erin faced during the course was that she didn’t have internet at home. “I have a computer at home but no internet so I wasn’t sure at first how well an online course would work,” says Erin. Her employer allowed her to access the courses online before work or during her lunch break. She would download the assignments and complete them at home.

Erin completed the Library Clerk applied certificate program in December 2018. Moving forward Erin plans to continue working at Punnichy Elementary Community School. Now that her program is completed she looks forward to spending more time with her horses and curling up with a cup of cocoa and a good book this winter. Congrats to Erin for being the first graduate of the Library Clerk applied certificate program!
