Paul Charette receives honorary diploma at Regina convocation

Paul Charette has more than 50 years of experience in construction and engineering, and has served as the chair of the board of Bird Construction Inc. since 2001. Charette graduated with a diploma in Civil Technology from Red River College in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in June 1967.

Upon graduation, Charette joined Crippen Acres Engineering as an engineering technologist. In 1976, he joined Bird Construction Company Inc. as a project coordinator, and progressed to president and chief operating officer in 1988. He was named chief executive officer in 1991, and chair of the board in 2001, leading the company through a period of substantial growth. He was also responsible for the transfer of ownership from the Bird family to the senior management of the company. In September 2008, Charette retired from his position as CEO of Bird Construction Company Inc. and continues in his role as a director and board chair.

In addition to the Bird Construction board of directors, Charette has served on many other boards during his career, including the Ontario General Contractor’s Association, Toronto Construction Association Advisory committee, and the Canadian Construction Association, to name a few. During his time with Bird construction Charette has been bestowed with many awards of honours from various colleges and polytechnics across Canada, due to his continuous devotion to post-secondary education in Canada.

Since the first honorary diploma was awarded in 2003, Sask Polytech has been recognizing extraordinary individuals who model the institution's vision and values. The contributions made by the members of this elite group help cultivate an educational environment focused on applied learning and innovative research.
