Program: Professional Cooking – Certificate

While she loved her program and enjoyed learning a variety of cooking skills in the teaching kitchen at Sask Polytech, Jocelyn also found a lot of joy in participating in the extracurricular activities, such as volleyball and the Student Leadership Advisory Council.

"The experiences can be overwhelming but it is exciting," she says. "Being a part of the volleyball team makes it more enjoyable and I get to meet more people by getting involved."

Jocelyn says she joined the Student Leadership Advisory Council because she wanted to help contribute to a more positive experience for all students.

"I am excited to share solutions with others to ensure the betterment of policies, procedures and general life for students," she says.

As a student, Jocelyn was able to find help and support from a number of services on campus, including the Indigenous Student Success Strategy and Financial Assistance. She says by accessing these services, it was easier for her to manage the feeling of being homesick and create some roots at Moose Jaw campus.

For future students, Jocelyn says getting your Grade 12 diploma is a big help in adjusting between high school and post-secondary.

"College is way better than high school," she says. "It's so awesome!"
