Program: Aboriginal Policing Preparation - Certificate

Faith is looking to help keep the people of Saskatoon safe, and her first step towards achieving this goal is taking Sask Polytech's Aboriginal Policing Preparation program. But she had to learn how to manage her anxiety first.

"I had really bad anxiety when I was in high school," she says. "Once I came to Sask Polytech I was able to overcome my anxiety with the help of the Indigenous student advisors and the Summer Transition Program."

Being able to lean on the Indigenous Student Success Strategy and advisors who work there meant this First Nations student was able to navigate her classwork and other tasks with more confidence and without feeling overwhelmed.

"I like Sask Polytech because it is a more comfortable setting," she says. "The Indigenous Student Success Strategy advisors helped me fill out forms and print out papers. They helped me complete and review my assignments."

As she looks ahead to preparing to apply for a career on the Saskatoon Police Force, Faith says she hopes she can be a support to future students as well.

"If you work hard and put a lot of effort into achieving your goals, you can achieve anything," she says.
