The gift will support Indigenous student success at the Joseph A. Remai Saskatoon Campus
June 20, 2025 – Saskatchewan Polytechnic received a $1-million gift from the Malcolm J. Jenkins Family Foundation to support Indigenous student success at the new Joseph A. Remai Saskatoon Campus.
The gift will help create safe, welcoming spaces that reflect Indigenous cultural values and foster a strong sense of belonging.
“Sask Polytech plays a vital role in communities throughout our province,” says Malcolm Jenkins. “The new Joseph A. Remai Saskatoon Campus will offer state-of-the-art facilities and exceptional programs that will benefit students for generations to come. I’m proud to support this transformative project and help advance opportunities for Indigenous learners.”
“This generous gift from the Jenkins family strengthens our ability to continue to honour our commitment to miyo wahkohtowin — good relations — with Indigenous students and communities,” says Dr. Larry Rosia, president and CEO of Sask Polytech. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Malcolm J. Jenkins Family Foundation for including Sask Polytech in their impressive legacy of giving and helping us welcome the next generation of Indigenous learners to our new campus.”
Jenkins, a well-known philanthropist and retired Canadian Tire dealer, is recognized for his deep commitment to community development, particularly in the City of Prince Albert. He operated the Canadian Tire store there for 44 years before retiring at age 80.
“They say if you find a job you love, you never work a day in your life,” Jenkins says. “That’s been true for me.”
Jenkins became a familiar face and voice in Prince Albert through Canadian Tire’s local advertising and his involvement in numerous community projects, including the EA Rawlinson Centre, Hope’s Home, the Rotary Adventure Park, Friday Night Lights campaign, Special Olympics, Kinsmen Skateboard Park and the Alfred Jenkins Field House, which was named after his father.
Over the years, Jenkins has received numerous accolades, including the King Charles III Coronation Medal, Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal, Saskatchewan Order of Merit, the Commemorative Medal for the Centennial of Saskatchewan and an honorary diploma from Sask Polytech.
This latest gift reflects the Jenkins family’s ongoing dedication to education, inclusion and community well-being.
The Time to Rise campaign aims to empower Sask Polytech graduates and strengthen the provincial economy. The Remai Saskatoon Campus will consolidate an existing network of decentralized, outdated buildings into a modern, technology-rich learning environment, increasing program capacity for more students.
