May 9, 2016 – This weekend the School of Nursing will celebrate 50 years of quality nursing education at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. Over 200 alumni, faculty, students and supporters are expected to attend the weekend’s events.
“This is an exceptionally exciting year for the School of Nursing as we celebrate 50 years of quality nursing education,” says Dr. Netha Dyck, dean, School of Nursing and School of Health Sciences. “We are pleased to host celebratory events that honour the pioneering efforts of thousands of alumni in advancing nursing education, research and scholarly work. We are also celebrating the achievements of our currents students, graduates, faculty and staff.”
Cindy Smith, associate dean, and chair of the school's 50th anniversary activities, says a highlight of the celebrations is the establishment of the Legacy Trust fund for nursing students.
"By supporting our future students, we are also honouring our rich history of student success," says Smith. "By establishing a trust fund we are creating a legacy based on supporting scholarships and bursaries for future generations of students enrolled in School of Nursing programs."
Celebrations include simulation centre and campus tours, an artifact display, history timeline, fashion show and an evening program with an esteemed alumnus as the keynote speaker.
