Sask Polytech celebrates, honours partners

Recipients of President's Partnership Awards announced

April 22, 2015 - Saskatchewan Polytechnic will honour three valued partners for their contributions to the organization at a gala event next month.

Dr. Larry Rosia, president and CEO of Saskatchewan Polytechnic, announced the recipients of the President's Partnership Awards today:

  • Cameco Corporation - Industry Partnership Award
  • Steve McLellan - Alumni Partnership Award
  • Faculty of Nursing, University of Regina - Program Partnership Award

"Saskatchewan Polytechnic plays a leading role in post-secondary education in the province thanks to support from our partners. These awards are a way to share the spotlight and say, ‘Thank you, we could not do it without you,'" says Dr. Larry Rosia, Sask Polytech president and CEO.

The Industry Partnership Award is presented to an industry partner that has supported Sask Polytech's overall mission through a variety of means and over a period of time. The 2015 recipient is Cameco Corporation. Cameco Corporation has partnered with Sask Polytech for more than a decade by providing co-operative education placements, supporting the development of two mobile training labs and a 36-unit affordable housing complex at Prince Albert Campus, and the recent creation of a new student awards
program.

"Cameco has been an industry leader in ensuring that Sask Polytech students, particularly those from the far north, have access to the education and skills training that will help them and our province to grow and prosper," says Dr. Rosia.

The Alumni Partnership Award is presented to an alumnus or alumni who have advanced the reputation of Sask Polytech and/or made a notable contribution to Sask Polytech through a variety of means. The 2015 recipient is Steve McLellan. McLellan, CEO of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce, is a class of 1979 alumnus of the Hotel Administration program from Saskatchewan Polytechnic's Saskatoon campus. He has been an advocate, ambassador, and partner to Sask Polytech.

"Steve`s efforts on behalf of Sask Polytech have extended our reach into the business communities across our province," says Dr. Rosia. "Steve is an inspiration to students, and Sask Polytech is proud to recognize his contributions with this award."

The Program Partnership Award is presented to an organization, or individual, or individuals, who have made a notable contribution to the development of a new or existing Sask Polytech program. The 2015 recipient is the Faculty of Nursing, University of Regina. The relationship between the University of Regina's Faculty of Nursing and Sask Polytech's School of Nursing has, in a relatively short period of time, made long-lasting changes to nursing education in our province. This partnership has seen the
creation of two collaborative nursing programs as well as collaborations in the publication of manuscripts and presentations at conferences.

"The Faculty of Nursing, University of Regina, is a valued partner of Sask Polytech, says Dr. Rosia. "By working together, we are better able to meet the needs of students and the health-care system across Saskatchewan."

The President's Partnership Awards will be handed out at the President's Gala on May 2 in Saskatoon. For information on the event, please visit www.saskpolytech.ca/gala.
