Language Centre

Saskatchewan Polytechnic programs are taught in English. If your first language is not English, you may need to show that you can read, write, speak and understand English well enough to succeed in your chosen program.

Our Programs

Saskatchewan Polytechnic offers several English proficiency tests to measure your skills. Test centres are located in Saskatoon and Regina.

Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment (CLBA)

The Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment (CLBA) measures the English communication skills of adults who have English as their second language. You must meet specific benchmarks to be accepted into Sask Polytech programs. For more information, see Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment (CLBA).

It’s Your Responsibility to Apply

Register for the CLBA in person at the Regina Campus Language Centre, Rm. 424. You’ll need to show your passport or government-issued photo identification and pay a $250 registration fee. A confirmation letter will be issued to candidates upon registering for the test and a reminder note is emailed to candidates one week before the test.

When & Where

CLBAs are held every second Thursday of the month. The usually take from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There is a limit of five students per assessment date.

Cancellation

If you’re not able to take the assessment on the scheduled day, you must send a written request to cancel or transfer the assessment. We require a minimum of seven (7) days’ notice if you are unable to keep your appointment. A $50.00 administration fee will apply for cancellations and transfers. Please contact the Language Centre office at 306-775-7601 or email clba.languagecentre@saskpolytech.ca. Note: you can take the test only once in a period of 12 months.
