Saskatchewan Polytechnic Regina campus will be offering a Gingival Retraction Cord Workshop. The appropriate selection and placement of gingival retraction cord allows an accurate impression of a tooth preparation below the gingival margin. In this course you will discuss the selection of retraction cord and practice its placement and removal on mannequins in the clinic.

You, as a Dental Assistant or Dental Hygienist, can learn how to insert and carve amalgam restorations. Learn dental amalgam restoration procedures and safety techniques. You will practice your amalgam insertion and carving skills in this hands-on weekend course. Entrance Requirements:
  • Registered and licensed as a Dental Assistant (Level II) or Registered Dental Hygienist.
  • Successful completion of a course on the placement and removal of dental dams, matrices, and wedges.
  • Successful completion of a course on the placement of liners and bases or treatment liners.
  • Employment in a dental practice.
  • Agreement by a mentor to instruct, supervise and evaluate preclinical requirements on a dentoform manikin and clinical requirements on dental practice patients.

You will study the principles of quality assurance in dental radiography. You will learn about the risks associated with radiation and how to protect yourself and others from unnecessary exposures. You will learn about image characteristics and the influencing factors that affect quality assurance. Both film based and digital imaging systems are discussed as well as the quality assurance tests that are recommended in the Saskatchewan Quality Assurance Manual.
