Perioperative Nursing/RN

Perioperative Nursing/RN is an advanced certificate program that provides registered nurses with the expanded knowledge and skills they need to work in an operating room, ambulatory surgery centre, free standing clinic or other perioperative settings.

The program is approved by the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC). You will receive training in applying the nursing process to perioperative nursing, principles and practice of aseptic technique, basic technical skills for surgical procedures, legal and ethical issues and interpersonal aspects of perioperative nursing.

You will focus on the nursing actions to be performed by the scrub and circulating nurse during surgical procedures, and the specialized care requirements of pediatric, geriatric and morbidly obese patients.

Prerequisites: Anatomy Review (ANAT 266), Perioperative Nurse/Anesthesia/LPN (NURS 214) (Concurrent), Perioperative Nurse/Anesthesia/RN (NURS 247) (Concurrent)
