    FSIN partners with Saskatchewan Polytechnic to focus on Indigenous student success - Fsin Partners With Sask. Polytech To Focus On Indigenous Student Success (Treaty 6 Territory, Saskatoon, SK) — The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) and Saskatchewan Polytechnic (Sask. Polytech) signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to set a framework to promote the Inherent and Treaty Right to Education for First Nations students and implementing the calls to action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

Penny Jean Wohlberg is a journeyperson carpenter and owner of Renovation Jeannie. She is also a strong supporter of Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Women in Trades & Technology (WITT) program. “For me it all started with WITT,” says Penny. “WITT is all about empowering women and giving them confidence. WITT was the catalyst that kick-started my career in the trades.”

Paul Hill receives honorary diploma at Regina Convocation As president of The Hill Companies since 1978, Paul has achieved a number of noteworthy successes over the years. One of his most significant achievements was acquiring controlling interest of Crown Life in 1990 and moving the company to Regina from Toronto. The acquisition not only brought 1,200 jobs to Regina, it also expanded Saskatchewan’s GDP by two per cent and the city’s GDP by ten per cent. Crown Life is now owned by Canada Life and remains a significant presence in Regina.

Saskatchewan Polytechnic celebrates excellence at Regina convocation More undergrad students graduate from Saskatchewan Polytechnic each year than from any other post-secondary institute in the province. June 22, 2017 – Tomorrow, Saskatchewan Polytechnic will celebrate the accomplishments of 1,162 graduates along with award recipients at the Regina campus convocation. Almost 366 students will be in attendance at Regina the convocation ceremony.

His contributions go beyond his financial generosity, rallying the community to achieve great things. Four years ago, he made a donation to the Pineview Terrace Lodge during the facility’s furnishing campaign, which helped campaign organizers reach and exceed their goal.

Elder Fred Sasakamoose receives honorary diploma at Saskatoon Convocation Many people know Elder Fred Sasakamoose for his exceptional athletic prowess and his incredible skill on the ice. He was the first Indigenous hockey player from Canada to play in the NHL and the first NHL player with treaty status. Growing up in northern Saskatchewan, Fred learned to skate at age five from his grandfather. Back then, there were no such things as carbon fibre hockey sticks or lightweight composite midsole skates with hydrophobic grip liners. Fred’s grandfather tied bob skates to his moccasins and he used willow branches for hockey sticks.

Ms. Verna Alford receives honorary diploma at Moose Jaw Convocation Ms. Verna Alford is the president of Alford Floors & Interiors in Regina. The company opened its doors in 1967 as a flooring store. Later, Verna expanded the company and began to provide furniture, accessories and guidance in Interior Design. Alford Floors & Interiors was one of the first companies to offer Interior Design services in Western Canada.
