Program: Dental Assisting certificate

Dental assisting is the perfect career for Brittany Quennell. The Métis woman remembers a dental assistant from her childhood: "She was the one who helped me not be afraid of going to the dentist. I thought I could be that person for someone."

Brittany chose Saskatchewan Polytechnic for her training. "I really like the practical learning that Sask Polytech offers. I am a hands-on learner, and the way they teach this program really works," she says. She appreciated the instructor involvement in student success, and also enjoyed the SHASS lunch-and-learn sessions that allowed her to get to know other Aboriginal students.

While she says it's impossible to pick just one favourite memory of her time at Sask Polytech, Brittany includes in her highlights receiving the Soaring Eagle Spirit Award. "It was a tremendous honour, and I am so proud of it!" The spirit award is presented to an Aboriginal student who supports their community, exemplifies spirit and pride amongst the student body, and shows an appreciation for Métis culture.

"I really like the practical learning."
