Program Overview

The retail sector is booming! Retail is the unsung hero of Canada’s healthy economy. Job opportunities are diverse and plentiful. There are service and sales jobs in big box stores, brand-name stores, small independents and boutiques. Focus on what you love—fashion, food, home decor, home building, leisure and more.

If you enjoy working with people and want a career that offers flexibility, good pay and benefits, and excellent advancement opportunities, Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s 12-week Retail Customer Service program will get you into the labour market quickly.

The Retail Customer Service applied certificate program is offered on demand at all four Saskatchewan Polytechnic campuses as well as off campus. The program is designed with industry input to give you the knowledge and skills you need for entry-level sales and service positions. You’ll learn about:

  • Food safety;
  • Keeping facilities clean and neat;
  • Performing basic office functions;
  • Running point-of-sale systems;
  • Safe fuel handling;
  • Serving customers by helping them find items and answering their questions; and
  • Stocking shelves and maintaining inventory.

You’ll also learn the basics of operating a computer, interpersonal communication, personal financial management and professionalism.

Test Drive Your Skills

You’ll apply your knowledge in classroom exercises and assignments. You’ll also spend two weeks in a retail operation getting hands-on training, so you’ll be job-ready at graduation.
